Near-term targets
5-10 year targets covering Scope 1, 2, and Scope 3 if >40% of total emissions
Long-term targets
Reduce emissions by at least 90% by 2050 at the latest
No offsets for near-term
Cannot use carbon offsets to achieve near-term targets
Third-party validation
Targets must be validated by SBTi within 24 months of commitment
How to Get SBTi Validated
- Submit a commitment letter to SBTi
- Develop targets using SBTi tools and guidance
- Submit targets for official validation
- Announce your validated targets
- Report progress annually through CDP
